OVERVIEW
The primary functions of the Municipal Court are to keep records of all violations of city ordinances and to collect all fines and costs. Municipal Court is held in room 108 of the McMinnville City Hall on Mondays at 4:00 P.M. and Fridays at 8:30 A. M. The Court Clerk’s office is located in the police department.
COURT FINES
The City of McMinnville Municipal City Court has a cash appearance bond schedule for speeding, parking, and most other violations. You may pay the cash appearance bond before court and avoid the court appearance.
COURT PROCEDURE
When your name is called, proceed to the front of the room. You will be asked if you are “guilty” or “not guilty” of the charge for which you have been cited. If you plead “guilty,” your case will be adjudicated at that time. If you plead “not guilty,” a hearing will be scheduled for a later date.
If the judge rules that you “not guilty,” or if your case is dismissed, you will be excused from the courtroom without the need to pay fines or court cost. If the judge rules that you are “guilty,” he will access you a fine and court cost.
METHOD OF PAYMENT
We accept cash, cashier’s checks, and money orders or personal checks written on a local bank with preprinted personal information. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD PAYMENTS.

NO INSURANCE CITATIONS
If you had valid automobile insurance at the time your citation was issued but did not have proof in your vehicle, you may show valid proof to a court officer and the charge will be dismissed.
SAFETY SCHOOL
Three (3) Safety Schools are scheduled on Thursdays each month. Two are in the evenings from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and the other is from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
The cost of Safety School is $100.00 which must be paid prior to class.
IF YOU ATTEND SAFETY SCHOOL, YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY FINES AND COURT COST RELATED TO YOUR CITATION.
You may attend safety school if:
- It has been more than two years since you attended a safety school sponsored by the McMinnville Police Department.
You may NOT attend safety school if:
- You were charged with speeding more than 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
- You were charged in a school zone with speeding more than 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
- You have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Tennessee Law 55-10-301c)
